B3i launched in 2016 as a consortium of major reinsurers (Swiss Re, Munich Re, Zurich Insurance). They built a working reinsurance settlement platform. B3i shut down in 2022 — not because the technology failed, but because commercial adoption was too slow to sustain operations. The technical lessons are valid; the timing and adoption strategy were the challenges.
