Complete Hiring Guide
Everything You Need to Know
Hyperledger Fabric development requires a completely different skill set from public blockchain: Go or Node.js chaincode, CA management, Docker orchestration, and enterprise integration patterns.
Hyperledger Developer Skill Requirements
Chaincode Developer (Go/Node.js):
- Go: strong proficiency (chaincode is Go for performance-critical production)
- Hyperledger Fabric shim API (`contractapi.Contract`, `ctx.GetStub()`)
- CouchDB query design (rich queries for complex state lookups)
- Unit testing with mock stubs (`shimtest.NewMockStub()`)
- NOT required: Solidity, MetaMask, EVM knowledge
Fabric Network Engineer:
- Docker and Kubernetes orchestration
- MSP and CA configuration
- Channel creation and management
- Orderer and peer node operations
- Certificate rotation and PKI management
Fabric Integration Developer:
- Fabric Gateway SDK (Go, Node.js, or Java)
- ERP integration patterns (SAP, Oracle)
- REST API gateway for Fabric
- Event listener architecture (block events → business systems)
Hiring Pitfalls for Enterprise Blockchain
Most 'blockchain developers' on job boards have Solidity/Ethereum experience. Hiring one to build Hyperledger Fabric is like hiring a JavaScript developer to write C++ system code — the language and paradigm are completely different.
How to screen Fabric candidates:
- Ask them to explain the difference between a channel and a network
- Ask how they would design a private data collection for a supply chain with competitor participants
- Ask about the Fabric 2.x lifecycle vs 1.x instantiation flow
- Ask how they handle certificate expiry in production
Salary range: Experienced Fabric developer: $140,000–$200,000. Network engineer with Fabric experience: $130,000–$180,000.
