Technology Overview

What is Polkadot?

Polkadot allows building parachains (parallel blockchains) that share Polkadot's validator security through shared security. Substrate is the framework for building any Polkadot-compatible blockchain. We build Substrate-based parachains for clients requiring custom blockchain infrastructure.

Polkadot's parachain auction model and cross-chain message passing (XCM) have matured significantly since 2022. Agile Coretime (Polkadot 2.0) sells compute time as a commodity, dramatically reducing capital requirements for building on Polkadot. XCM v3 adds conditional execution, asset fees in non-native tokens, error handling, and bridging to external chains.

Implementation

How we implement Polkadot

01

Discovery and fit

We validate requirements, user flows, transaction volume, security constraints, and integration needs.

02

Architecture

We define contracts, backend services, infrastructure, data flows, testing strategy, and deployment environments.

03

Implementation

Our engineers build, integrate, test, and document the production system.

04

Launch and support

We deploy, monitor, optimize, and support the system after production release.

Security

Security at every implementation layer

Threat modeling

Architecture is reviewed for asset custody, access control, external dependencies, and abuse cases.

Testing

Implementation includes unit, integration, edge-case, and regression testing before release.

Audit readiness

Smart contracts and critical infrastructure are prepared for independent security review where required.

Monitoring

Production systems include observability, alerts, incident response planning, and maintenance workflows.

Frequently Asked Questions

Polkadot development FAQs

How is Polkadot different from Cosmos?+

Both enable app-specific blockchains with interoperability. Key differences: Polkadot provides shared security (parachains inherit relay chain security — they do not need their own validators). Cosmos chains have their own validator sets (more sovereign, more setup required). Polkadot's cross-chain messaging (XCM) is more tightly integrated than Cosmos IBC; Cosmos IBC is more permissionless.
