Technology Overview

What is Polygon?

Polygon processes 65,000 TPS at $0.001–$0.10 per transaction with full Ethereum compatibility. We have been building on Polygon since its launch. 1,000+ blockchain projects. It is our recommended chain for consumer NFT platforms, gaming applications, and high-frequency DeFi.

Polygon PoS is EVM-compatible: Solidity contracts, Ethereum tooling (Hardhat, Foundry), and Ethereum wallets (MetaMask, WalletConnect) all work without modification. For developers with Ethereum experience, deploying to Polygon requires changing the RPC endpoint — not rewriting the code. For users, gas costs drop from $2–$50 on Ethereum mainnet to $0.001–$0.10.

When to Build on Polygon

Capabilities

What we build with Polygon

01

Ethereum-compatible smart contracts with gas costs under $0.10 per transaction

02

NFT platforms requiring low-cost minting (10,000+ item collections)

03

Gaming applications with frequent on-chain interactions

04

Consumer applications where high gas costs would be a user adoption barrier

05

DeFi applications targeting cost-sensitive users or high-frequency trading

06

ERC-20, ERC-721, ERC-1155 contracts (identical to Ethereum contracts)

Implementation

How we implement Polygon

01

Discovery and fit

We validate requirements, user flows, transaction volume, security constraints, and integration needs.

02

Architecture

We define contracts, backend services, infrastructure, data flows, testing strategy, and deployment environments.

03

Implementation

Our engineers build, integrate, test, and document the production system.

04

Launch and support

We deploy, monitor, optimize, and support the system after production release.

Security

Security at every implementation layer

Threat modeling

Architecture is reviewed for asset custody, access control, external dependencies, and abuse cases.

Testing

Implementation includes unit, integration, edge-case, and regression testing before release.

Audit readiness

Smart contracts and critical infrastructure are prepared for independent security review where required.

Monitoring

Production systems include observability, alerts, incident response planning, and maintenance workflows.

Frequently Asked Questions

Polygon development FAQs

Is Polygon as secure as Ethereum?+

Polygon PoS is a sidechain — it checkpoints to Ethereum but is not secured by Ethereum's consensus in the same way a rollup is. It has its own validator set (105 validators as of 2025). For most consumer applications, this security model is adequate. For applications securing very high asset values, consider a rollup-based L2 (Arbitrum, Optimism) or Polygon zkEVM.

What does it cost to build an NFT marketplace on Polygon?+

The development cost is the same as an Ethereum NFT marketplace — the contracts are identical. The difference is user gas costs: minting on Polygon costs $0.001–$0.10 vs $5–$50 on Ethereum mainnet.
