The fastest path from zero to production-ready blockchain developer: 6 months of focused study and building. Here is the curated, opinionated curriculum.

Full Resource

The fastest path to production-ready blockchain developer: Month 1-2: Solidity and Ethereum fundamentals. Month 3-4: Security fundamentals (most important investment). Month 5-6: DeFi protocol patterns (build an AMM). Month 7-8: Advanced patterns and testing. Month 9-10: Real-world integration. Month 11-12: Audit experience. The critical differentiator: developers who cannot explain security cannot get hired.

Month 1–2: Foundations

Solidity basics (100 hours):

CryptoZombies (free, 40 hours) — gamified intro

Cyfrin Updraft Module 1 (free, 30 hours) — Foundry basics

Solidity documentation (read Security Considerations section first)

Checkpoint:

Can you write an ERC-20 token with a hard cap, write a test for every function, and deploy it to Sepolia testnet? If yes, proceed. If not, stay in Month 1–2.

Month 3–4: Security Fundamentals

This is the most important investment in the entire path. Production developers who skip security fundamentals write vulnerabilities that cost millions.

Read (in this order):

Smart Contract Security Field Guide (scsfg.io) — read every attack class

20 rekt.news post-mortems — understand how real exploits happened

OpenZeppelin security documentation

Ethereum Smart Contract Best Practices (consensys.github.io)

Practice:

Ethernaut (18 levels, OpenZeppelin's security challenges) — complete every level

Damn Vulnerable DeFi (16 challenges) — flash loan, oracle manipulation, governance attacks

Code4rena: read the top findings reports from the last 6 months (public)

Month 5–6: DeFi Protocol Patterns

Study production codebases (in order of complexity):

Uniswap V2 — constant product AMM (1,000 LoC, well-commented)

Compound V2 — lending protocol (2,000 LoC)

Aave V3 — advanced lending with multiple collateral types (5,000 LoC)

Uniswap V3 — concentrated liquidity (complex math, optional)
