Complete Hiring Guide
Everything You Need to Know
NFT development spans smart contracts, metadata architecture, minting UX, and marketplace infrastructure. Here is what a complete NFT development team looks like.
The NFT Developer Stack
An NFT project requires multiple skill sets. Rarely one person:
Smart contract developer (Solidity):
Minting contract (ERC-721/1155), royalty enforcement (EIP-2981), whitelist management (Merkle tree), reveal mechanics, access control. Rate: $130–$350/hr.
Metadata and storage architect:
IPFS/Arweave upload tooling, generative collection pipeline (Art Engine or custom), metadata JSON validation, rarity calculation. Can be a junior engineer. Rate: $80–$150/hr.
The Most Common NFT Project Mistakes From Solo Hires
No load testing:
A minting site built by a developer without load testing will fail under 5,000 simultaneous users. The developer tested locally. You will test in production. Consequence: thousands of failed mints, refund requests, community collapse.
Centralized metadata hosting:
NFT metadata pointed at `https://yourproject.com/token/1` disappears when the project is abandoned. Permanent IPFS/Arweave hosting is non-negotiable for NFTs intended to retain value.
